CPLN - 0.5 | Planetary Concrete Mixer

CPLN-0.5 is the entry model in the CONSTMACH planetary concrete mixer range, built for producers who need the intense, uniform mixing of the countercurrent principle at a compact 0.5 m³ batch size. It takes a 750-litre charge and produces 625 litres of fresh concrete, equal to 500 litres of compacted concrete, per cycle. The planetary design is chosen where mix quality outweighs raw volume, making the CPLN-0.5 well suited to small precast yards, decorative concrete shops and high-strength applications.

The planetary, or countercurrent, action is what distinguishes this mixer from single shaft and pan types. A single mixing star rotates on its own axis while orbiting the central point of the pan, so each arm sweeps the entire mixer floor over a number of revolutions. This dense, overlapping motion breaks down zero-slump and low-water mixes quickly and produces a homogeneous batch in roughly thirty seconds for most concrete. The result is higher strength and better consistency at equal cement content, or the same strength with reduced cement.

Power on the CPLN-0.5 comes from an 18.5 kW motor and a large reduction gearbox running in an oil bath, sized to drive the planetary star through the resistance of stiff, dry-cast mixes. The generous gearbox and oil bath run cool under continuous duty, in contrast to small commercial gear units that overheat in cramped housings. The 18.5 kW rating matches the 0.5 m³ batch so the star maintains mixing speed even when working zero-slump material.

Wear protection is configured for the planetary layout. The CPLN-0.5 uses 10 mm Hardox 450 bottom wearing plates, 8 mm side body plates and 25 mm mixing arm plates. The floor is built from small, identical tiles that are low in cost and can be replaced individually as they wear, so only the affected sections are renewed rather than the whole pan. Ni-Hard cast iron liner tiles and mixing blades are available for extended wear life, with chromium carbide cladding offered for extreme abrasion.

A hydraulic discharge door gives controlled opening and closing and uses rubber sealing to prevent leakage of water and cement paste, which protects the integrity of the mix and keeps the plant area clean. The three-armed star pattern provides a more thorough mixing action than two-arm designs and lasts longer in service, while the paddles serve primarily to move material toward the discharge opening.

The CPLN-0.5 is fitted with a maintenance door safety switch and a high-security cover latch that disables start-up while the cover is open, so the pan can be inspected and cleaned without exposure to the rotating star. SKF or FAG heavy-duty bearings and an emergency stop button complete the safety and reliability package. With its compact footprint, cool-running gearbox and high-consistency mixing, the CPLN-0.5 gives smaller producers access to planetary mixing quality for precast, decorative and high-strength concrete.

FAQ

The CONSTMACH CPLN-0.5 planetary concrete mixer is a 0.5 m³ class machine for producers who require the consistency and strength advantages of countercurrent mixing in a compact unit. Its applications, products, installation and servicing are described below.

Where the CPLN-0.5 Is Used

The planetary principle is preferred wherever mix quality, low-slump performance or cement efficiency are priorities. Typical applications for the CPLN-0.5 include:

  • Precast yards producing pipes, manholes, kerbs and architectural elements
  • Decorative and coloured concrete, terrazzo and exposed-aggregate products
  • High-strength and self-compacting concrete requiring uniform dispersion
  • Dry-cast and zero-slump products such as paving blocks and roof tiles
  • Laboratory and trial-batch work where repeatable consistency matters

What It Produces

At 625 litres of fresh concrete and 500 litres compacted per batch, the CPLN-0.5 produces small, high-quality batches with tight consistency. The thirty-second mixing time for most concrete supports rapid cycling in a precast operation, and the countercurrent action handles stiff zero-slump mixes that a single shaft or pan mixer would struggle to homogenise as evenly.

Installation and Power

The 18.5 kW drive requires a three-phase supply. The mixer is compact and can be installed in a stationary precast plant or integrated above a small batching tower. Because the gearbox runs in an oil bath, the unit should be sited with adequate ventilation and level mounting, and the oil level checked as part of commissioning.

Maintenance and Wear Parts

The floor is lined with small, identical tiles that are individually replaceable, which keeps spare-part cost low and simplifies renewal of worn sections. The 10 mm Hardox 450 bottom plates, 8 mm side plates and 25 mm arm plates can be specified in Ni-Hard or chromium carbide for harder duty. The rubber-sealed discharge door should be inspected for seal wear, and the oil-bath gearbox checked on schedule. The cover latch and maintenance door safety switch must be tested to confirm they disable start-up when the pan is open.

Comparison With Other Mixer Types

Compared with a single shaft mixer, the planetary CPLN-0.5 gives more intense and uniform mixing, higher strength and cement saving of around 10 to 15 percent, at a higher purchase price. Compared with a pan mixer, the countercurrent star reaches the whole floor more thoroughly and handles dry-cast mixes faster. The planetary type is the premium choice for precast, decorative and high-strength work rather than for bulk general-purpose ready-mix, where a single shaft mixer is more economical.

Operating Considerations

The thirty-second mixing time means the CPLN-0.5 can cycle quickly, so the surrounding plant should be able to charge and discharge at a matching pace to realise the mixer's potential. Because the countercurrent action is intense, attention to liner condition is important: worn floor tiles reduce mixing efficiency and should be replaced before they affect batch quality. Operators working coloured concrete should also plan a cleanout routine between colour changes, which the half-moon cover and accessible pan make straightforward. The high-security cover latch enforces this by disabling start-up whenever the cover is open, protecting both the operator and the product.

CONSTMACH can advise on liner specification, layout and spare-part planning to match the CPLN-0.5 to a specific precast or high-strength production line.
