CPLN - 1.5 | Planetary Concrete Mixer

CPLN-1.5 is the first twin-motor model in the CONSTMACH planetary concrete mixer range, built for large precast and high-strength operations that need substantial batch size with the consistency of countercurrent mixing. It accepts a 2,250-litre charge and produces 2,000 litres of fresh concrete, equal to 1,500 litres of compacted concrete, per cycle. At this volume the mixer suits major precast plants and structural concrete lines where both throughput and tight quality control are required.

The mixer works on the planetary, or countercurrent, principle, but at this capacity it uses two mixing stars rather than one. The stars rotate on their own axes while orbiting the centre of the pan, so the arms cover the whole floor with overlapping passes and break down zero-slump and low-water mixes quickly. The result is a homogeneous batch in roughly thirty seconds for most concrete, with the higher strength, tighter consistency and cement saving that distinguish planetary mixing, now sustained across a 1.5 m³ batch.

Power on the CPLN-1.5 comes from twin 30 kW motors, each driving through its own large oil-bath reduction gearbox, for a combined 60 kW. Splitting the drive across two units shares the load of moving a large stiff batch and provides a degree of redundancy at a busy plant. The oversized gearboxes and oil baths run cool under continuous duty, avoiding the overheating that affects undersized commercial gear units, which is important for the long shifts typical of a major precast line.

Wear protection is adjusted for the larger pan. The CPLN-1.5 uses 10 mm Hardox 450 bottom wearing plates, 10 mm side body plates and 25 mm mixing arm plates, the thicker 10 mm sides reflecting the greater volume of material scouring the chamber walls at this capacity. The floor is laid as small, identical tiles that are individually replaceable, with Ni-Hard tiles and blades available for longer life and chromium carbide cladding offered for extreme abrasion.

A hydraulic discharge door provides powered, controllable opening and closing, sealed with rubber to prevent leakage of water and cement paste. Optional additional discharge doors, up to four, can be specified to suit complex mould-filling layouts at large precast plants. The three-armed star pattern mixes more thoroughly than two-arm designs and lasts longer, while the paddles primarily move material toward the discharge openings.

For maintenance safety, the CPLN-1.5 includes a maintenance door safety switch and a high-security cover latch that disables start-up while the cover is open, allowing the large pan to be inspected and cleaned without exposure to the rotating stars. SKF or FAG heavy-duty bearings and an emergency stop button complete the package. With its 1.5 m³ batch, twin 30 kW drive and high-consistency mixing, the CPLN-1.5 is suited to demanding, high-volume precast and structural concrete production.

FAQ

The CONSTMACH CPLN-1.5 planetary concrete mixer is a 1.5 m³ twin-motor machine for large precast and high-strength production. Its applications, output, installation and servicing are set out below to support plant planning.

Where the CPLN-1.5 Is Used

This capacity is chosen by large producers who need substantial planetary-mixed batches. Typical applications include:

  • Major precast plants producing beams, columns, panels, pipes and large architectural units
  • Structural and high-strength concrete for bridges, tunnels and heavy infrastructure
  • Self-compacting concrete production requiring uniform dispersion at large batch size
  • High-volume decorative and exposed-aggregate concrete lines with multiple mould stations

What It Produces

At 2,000 litres of fresh concrete and 1,500 litres compacted per batch, the CPLN-1.5 delivers large-batch volume while preserving the thirty-second mixing time and tight consistency of the twin-star planetary action. It homogenises stiff zero-slump and high-performance mixes more evenly than single shaft or pan mixers, supporting demanding precast schedules.

Installation and Power

The twin 30 kW motors require a three-phase supply and a control panel sized to start and run both drives. The mixer is a substantial unit, so it is installed in a stationary precast plant or above a batching tower on a structure engineered for the mixer mass and the dynamic load of a full 1.5 m³ batch. Each oil-bath gearbox should be mounted level with adequate ventilation and the oil level verified at commissioning.

Maintenance and Wear Parts

The 10 mm Hardox 450 floor is laid as individually replaceable tiles; the 10 mm side plates and 25 mm arm plates can be upgraded to Ni-Hard or chromium carbide for harder aggregates. Both oil-bath gearboxes need scheduled oil checks, the rubber discharge-door seals should be inspected for wear, and where optional extra doors are fitted each seal and actuator should be serviced. The cover latch and maintenance door safety switch must be tested to confirm they disable start-up when the pan is open.

Comparison With Other Mixer Types

Against a single shaft mixer of similar size, the CPLN-1.5 mixes more intensely and uniformly, giving higher strength and cement saving of around 10 to 15 percent at a higher purchase price and installed power. Pan mixers are not generally built to this batch size and remain small-batch tools. The planetary type is the premium choice for large precast, structural and high-strength production, while single shaft mixers stay more economical for bulk general ready-mix.

Operating Considerations

With two drives and two stars, commissioning and routine servicing of the CPLN-1.5 cover both motors and both gearboxes, so maintenance planning should account for the duplicated drive train. The large pan handles a high tonnage of material each shift, making liner monitoring important: the individually replaceable floor tiles and the side and arm plates should be inspected on a programme and renewed before wear affects mixing. Where the optional extra discharge doors are fitted to feed several mould stations, each door's rubber seal and hydraulic actuator add to the maintenance schedule but reduce concrete handling time between pours. The high-security cover latch disables start-up while the cover is open, enforcing safe access to the large pan during cleanouts.

CONSTMACH can advise on the number of discharge doors, liner specification, layout and spare-part planning to match the CPLN-1.5 to a specific large precast operation.
